We'll Miss You Sassy...

This isn't cooking related but I felt it was necessary to share with you all that today was a very sad day. My kitty, Sassy, who we've had since I was 12 (I'm 27 now...) passed away. She had kidney failure and was in a lot of pain, so we decided to end her suffering and put her to sleep. I thought it may help me to write about Sassy, so thank you for reading, should you chose to. :o)

Sassy was a character, don't let these cute pictures fool you! :o) She was named after the movie Homeward Bound, which was my favorite movie at the time. She reminded me so much of the cat in that movie that I begged and begged my parents to let us name her Sassy. "She doesn't look like a Sassy though," they said, "she looks like a Pearl." Pearl!? No way! I knew that Sassy would live up to her name and boy did she! She would torment me at night. She really did creep me out for about a year (I had seen Pet Semetary for the first time). She would sit in the doorway of my bedroom and just stare at me. Looking back, she was just watching out for me, I'm sure. She would always be on my bed when I was sick, upset, or scared. She was a great kitty and we'll miss her so much.

We had gotten her shortly after our sheltie, Casey (who passed away a few years ago) and they were the best of friends. Casey knew that Sassy called the shots when she bopped him on the nose one night when he got a little rough with her. Since that night he was bopped, they would play and roll around all night, wrestling, but never trying to hurt each other. When I moved out, I couldn't bear to take her from her best bud, so I let my parents keep her at their house with Casey. I think a little bit of her died when Casey died, she never was quite the same. She adapted well to my parents new dogs (another sheltie and a border collie=rowdy).

She was a petite kitty, never weighing more than 7 pounds. This is why it broke our hearts to hear that although it had appeared she ate, she must not have ate much because she had lost over 2 pounds, not good for a kitty her size. She is now with Casey up in pet heaven, I'm sure. We found this poem awhile back, after Casey died and I think it is perfect.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Oh honey...I am sorry to hear about your kitty! I went through the same thing my kitty in June and she has kidney failure too. She was 18 (and a half) years old and has been with me since 3rd grade. You did the right thing. Take care and stay strong =).
